It should also be noted that characters' backstories and scenarios are not entirely faithful to historical events (Mori Ranmaru was born two years before Inabayama Castle fell, instead of defending it alongside Akechi Mitsuhide, Naoe Kanetsugu was an infant during the time of the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima although he is portrayed as Uesugi Kenshin's second-in command and Sanada Yukimura was a boy during the events of Nagashino). Many of these relationships are also greatly changed in Samurai Warriors 2 (the battle of Okehazama and the siege of Inabayama castle are omitted; Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Saika Magoichi are best of friends; Ranmaru and Mitsuhide are practically indifferent to one another, while Oda Nobunaga and Mitsuhide are particularly close).
Take note that Wikipedia and the game list their personal names before their surnamesthe opposite of how the Japanese referred to them during the Sengoku (Warring States) period.
Goemon has good strength and toughness, but he is rather slow in both movement and attacking. He wields a weapon called "Kai-basara", consisting of a single-handed mace (which doubles as a flail) and a cannon mounted on his back. His attacks are direct and predictable, consisting of simple clobbering, flailing and smashing actions with his mace and blasts of his cannon. His Musou attack involves him bending forward, continuously loading his cannon (also at a rather low speed) to blast everyone around him.
A wild man who served under Oda Nobunaga until he became a wanderer after Nagashino, where he felt constrained by Nobunaga's mass use of rifles against the Takeda Cavalry, and joins the Uesugi forces in one path of the story. In Samurai Warriors 2, he rescued Yukimura Sanada from Oda riflemen at Nagashino and helps the Uesugi forces escape at Hasedo. He has a close friendship with Yukimura and Kanetsugu Naoe. Akin to his historical counterpart, he is always seen riding his horse and companion, Matsukaze. His personality is very relaxed and laid back, and he views battle as exciting and fun. He was the series' equivalent to Dynasty Warriors' Lu Bu when he premiered, but this position was taken by Tadakatsu Honda in the second installment. Keiji also has a romantic relationship with the priestess Okuni in both games, though more so in the first.
